Wheeler Farm

Ever since signing up for a photography class at college Andy has been dragged everywhere and
foced to smile for the camera. I tried to change it up this time for him and take him somehwhere that he may actually like; Wheeler Farm. I don't have a ton of shots that I love but some of them are good enough to put on the blog. Of course it's nice to have photoshop to cover up some of the problems. I really wish my first picture had focused better on Andy's face. Anyway, here they are, ejnoy!

A Letter To Paul..

A fellow heart friend on mine, Paul Cardall, received a new heart after being on the waiting list for over a year. This was a very emotional and happy event for me and I wanted to post the letter that I wrote him.

To My Inspiring Friend,

It was absolute act of God and his grace that I met your wife in the NICU several months ago. In that moment, she was truly an angel to me because she gave me some sort of relief that I had needed to hear. She told me of her husband, and how he had been on the wait-list for a heart transplant. In that moment, CHD felt as normal to me as someone with blue eyes. It felt like there was so much hope. It didn't feel like a death sentence or an unbearable burden, all because there was a man out there, a GROWN man, who was living and thriving spiritually. He was beating CHD, beating it well- which meant something profoundly significant to me; it was beatable.

Paul, I want you to know that in so many ways you have given me hope that I would not otherwise have. My son does not have a complex congenital heart defect like yours. In fact, I really shouldn't complain about his CHD. But as a mother I have spent countless nights crying and crying and crying and crying and crying and crying myself to sleep.... all because the future scares me. I'm terrified of it. I'm not sure what Andrew's life will be like, what he will be able to do, what toll the defect will take.

You are the face to me of Andrew's future. I can see it more clearly now and I can see how well he can live it.

A doctor can only tell me that Andrew is probably going to live through this but you showed me that you can live through it well. His future looks bright to me because you have illuminated the path. And not only have you shown me that the path is there, you have shown me that it can be experienced beautifully.

I am so grateful to God and to you for giving me the inspiration to get through the hard times. I hope that one day Andrew can meet you. I hope your story can give him the same courage and stamina it has given me when he is struggling through the hard times. Thank you for what you have gone through, not just for yourself and family but also for all the other heart families out there. I know it has been a horribly rough road, and I know there are still going to be hurdles but please know that you are giving us all strength when you conquer these trials. Andrew and I have prayed for you and are grateful to Heavenly Father for answering our prayers, as well as everyone else out there who have prayed for you. It means a lot to us. You mean a lot to us.

Sincerely,
Amber T.

The Nicest Uncle In The World

That would be James. He's Matthew's little brother and as long as I have known him he's been the sweetest, gentlest guy. I feel very fortunate to have him for Andy because I have no siblings myself which means no uncles or aunts for Andrew on my side. James is more than enough though! He braved taking Andrew to The Aquarium. I say braved because Andrew was teething and screaming and crying pretty much the whole morning. I think he had a really good time though. When they came home Andy was sporting a shark backpack and had a little plastic starfish in his hand. See what I mean about sweet? Uncle James had spoiled him at the gift shop. Afterwards we went to Skippers to eat. Sadly, Skippers went out of business near us so I'm glad we went on a whim. James got a great picture of Andy on his phone, check it out...

Smiling for Uncle James' cell phone. How freaking cute is that?

Thanks Uncle James! You're the best!!!

Rendezvous at Fort Bridger

For Labor Day weekend I wanted to get out of the house. Matthew and I had a TON of homework and we needed to clean so we really should have stayed home but I HAD to get out of the house. Sometimes staying home with Andy all day long can make me a little stir-crazy for adventure and it's not like I'm living in Europe anymore so I got to take it where I can find it!

My dad really wanted to go to the Mountain Man Rendezvous in Fort Bridger. Come on, he has a little boy to play indian with now, of course he wanted to go! All I have to say is thank goodness for portable DVD players. Whoever created them is a genius. I'm not sure how the 2 hour drive would have been for Andy without it.
Matthew had never been to the rendezvous before so we were looking forward to showing him what it was like. Andy completely loved it there. Indians + Mountain Men + Andy= FUN! We ate Navajo Tacos while watching the Native dancers. My mom made Andy his own little Indian hat, it was pretty cute.

I made the mistake of suggesting that we buy Andy a tomahawk. It was absolutely adorable when his dad came walking up with him on his shoulders and Andrew was holding his prized tomahawk, but things quickly got out of hand. Stupidly, I taught Andy how to use it. He started banging it on Matthew's head but he really wasn't banging too hard. Then Nana invited him to try it on her head and ***WHACK!!!!******* He NAILED her in the head!!! Sorry about that Nana. If it makes her feel any better a few days later he woke me up in the morning by whacking me on the head pretty hard. Out with the tomahawk... Next year we'll suit him up like an Indian and MAYBE he can bring it. Maybe we'll even make it a family tradition and camp there. It was a really good time...

Welcome To The Planet, Little Man!

I just have to brag.... I'm aunt again for the second time!!! Unfortunately, the sweet little guy lives pretty far away from me so I can't be there to meet him but he is in my prayers and I am looking forward to the day I can hold that sweet little boy!

So, Anna and Tyler (who is Matthew's twin) I want to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Welcome to the world

Adam Jurel Tingey

We love you so much,
Aunt Amber and Uncle Matthew
